A Smart Water Rule for Champions

A Smart Water Rule for Champions

Have you ever seen a basketball player run fast and jump high? They are called athletes. To play their best, athletes need to drink lots of water. This is called staying hydrated.

A smart teacher for athletes, called a nutritionist, shared a helpful tip. This news was shared in the spring of 2025. The nutritionist, named Matt Jones, helps a famous basketball team called the Boston Celtics. He says drinking water at the right time is very important. It helps your body and your brain work well. If you don’t drink enough water, you might feel tired or grumpy. You might not think as clearly.

Here is a special rule that athletes use: try to drink most of your water for the day before 4 o’clock in the afternoon. Why? If you drink a lot of water right before bed, you might have to wake up to use the bathroom. Good sleep is very important for athletes and for you, too! Drinking your water early helps your body use it all day long.

You can get water from more than just your cup. Fruits like watermelon and oranges have water in them. Even some drinks like milk can help. The most important drink is plain water. Remember to take sips of water all through the day, even before you feel thirsty.

Staying hydrated helps everyone, not just athletes. It helps you run at recess, think in class, and feel your best. So, fill up your water bottle and remember the champion’s rule: drink up by 4 p.m.!
