A Trip to Sicily
Last fall, a woman named Kristine went on a big trip. She went to a beautiful island called Sicily. Sicily is in Italy, far across the ocean. Kristine’s family came from Sicily a long time ago, so she wanted to see it. She went for nine days in October. She saw many pretty towns and ate yummy food. But she learned some things for her next trip.
First, she learned about the weather. In October, it rained a lot! The rain made some days cloudy and wet. Next time, she might go in the summer when it is sunnier.
Second, she tried to see too much. Sicily has an east side and a west side. She tried to see both sides in one trip. That meant she spent a lot of time riding in buses and trains. She felt tired from traveling so much. Next time, she will pick just one side of the island to visit.
Third, she will stay in more than one town. On her first trip, she stayed in one city and took long trips to other places. Next time, she will sleep in two or three different towns. This way, she will be closer to the fun places she wants to see.
Finally, she learned to plan her rides. One day, the train was full, and she could not get on! She had to wait for hours. Another day, the buses were not running. She had to share a taxi with nice strangers. Next time, she will buy her bus and train tickets early. She will also have a backup plan, just in case.
Kristine loved Sicily. Even with some rainy days and busy travel, she had a wonderful time. She is already thinking about her next adventure there!
